Happy Diwali (Short story)

” Yes amma, interview went good. Train is at 10 pm. Just vacated the room. See you tomorrow, take care.”

It was only 7 pm. Train station was at 15 minutes walkable distance. I could have spent two more hours in the hotel room but as per their norms, check out time was before 7 pm πŸ€₯. Since I had enough adventures in that City, I simply walked towards the station.

On the way, I got my dinner packed from a road side dhabha. As expected, the station was over crowded, but luckily I found a space for myself little away from the huge crowd.

Now it was around 8 pm and I had to kill two more hours. I scrolled down my facebook feed for few minutes. Since I had to save my phone’s energy till morning, I kept it inside and looked around. There was a small bookstall on the left corner. I went there, bought a novel and walked back to my seat.

Grrr.😑.. The worst sight of the moment. My seat was occupied by a girl with her bags spread all over. Well, it was a public space though. I could not claim for the seat. But I really got irritated and stared at her for few seconds.

She too lifted her thin eyebrows and looked at me. I avoided any eye contact. To my surprise, she arranged her bags aside and offered me some space to sit. I accepted her favour 😏.

At 9 30 pm, there was an announcement saying Chennai Express is running late for 5 hours 😬. Seeing me acting irritated, the girl beside me asked ” Are you for Chennai express?”

As our conversation developed, we came to know that our destination was same. And even more to my surprise, she had also come for the same interview which I attended and was staying in the same hotel as of mine 😳.

Soon we became friends. We talked about our families. We went to different schools but we discovered many mutual friends. I really wondered not knowing such an awesome person for all these years.

After long conversation, we took a break. I thought I should open the kaju katliΒ box and make this new friendship memorable. So at 2 am, crazy me took out the sweet box from my bag and turned towards Ashwathi.

Unbelievable !!!!!!

She was already there offering me a same to same Kaju katli box half opened with a broad smile. And we said it together……………… “Happy Diwali” !!!!😍 😍

She took a selfie of ours and posted on her timeline with a caption “I found my twin on this Diwali” πŸ˜‚

Thank you my dear friends for reading this story and I wish you a very Happy Diwali πŸ€—
